2025 Honorary Lifetime Member Harold Kindopp

Harold Kindopp first stepped into the Creston Curling Centre 18 years ago, during the 2007–08 season, joining the Senior Men’s League. From those early days, Harold quickly became more than just a curler—he became a cornerstone of our club community.

At the height of his curling career, Harold was active in five leagues. That’s not just commitment—that’s passion. And it didn’t stop there. Harold served multiple terms on our board as Ice Director, and to this day, he’s part of Josh’s incredible team of volunteers who install and remove the ice each season, ensuring it’s in top condition for all of us to enjoy.

If you’ve ever arrived early for a game, chances are you’ve seen Harold out on the ice—half an hour before the first rock is thrown—nipping the surface, mopping the fresh pebble off the bulkheads and walkways, and quietly making sure everything is just right.

As Ice Director, Harold brought forward countless ideas to improve our equipment and ice maintenance. And while I’m no expert in ice tech, I’d like to share a few highlights from his nomination:

Harold’s contributions include:

  • Recommending the removal of dividers
  • Advocating for the use of Jet Ice products
  • Introducing the hose reel and continuous single flooding hose
  • Modifying the house ring router jig for quick-release stations
  • Helping design the behind-the-hack Mini Burner

These innovations have helped elevate the quality of our ice—and our curling experience—thanks to Harold’s thoughtful input and hands-on work.

But Harold’s impact goes far beyond the ice.

He’s always been the first to welcome new curlers—not just with a handshake, but with genuine warmth and encouragement. His involvement across multiple leagues gave him the chance to connect with countless members, and he’s never missed an opportunity to mentor, coach, or simply make someone feel at home.

Though he now curls in just two leagues, Harold remains a vibrant presence—guiding new members, introducing them to others, and helping them learn the game, whether it’s traditional delivery or learning to use a stick.

We also want to recognize Harold’s wife, Sharon. Sharon, thank you for your support and for being part of this journey. The friendships you’ve both built here over the past 18 years are a testament to the spirit of our club.

Let’s celebrate Harold Kindopp—his dedication, his kindness, and his unwavering commitment to the Creston Curling Centre.
