Curl in Canada Day – The Big Shootout

Curling Day in Canada was a big deal for us this year as it coincided with our 100th Anniversary Celebration.

We kicking things off with The Big Shootout, a national challenge where clubs across the country competed for a chance to win a $5,000 curling facility grant. We had 30 minutes to rotate throwers through the hack, all aiming to land a rock right on the pin. We had several “oh-so-close” attempts, and by the end of the half hour, three curlers hit the pin cleanly. Congratulation to Bunty Allan, Tim Elliot and Pete Plante for putting the rock on the button!

A big thank-you goes to Ted, Marcel, and their team of volunteers—and an extra shout-out to the sweepers who swept their hearts out for the full 30 minutes while the rest of us cheered from the lounge. Those dramatic cries of “YAYY… ahhh… oooo…” as rocks slid just centimetres off the pin will stay with us for a while.
