Nelson Open Benefit Bonspiel!

Hello Kootenay Curlers,   **Updated – September 18, 2019**

The Creston Curling Club will be hosting an “Open Benefit Bonspiel ” Oct 31 – Nov 3 , 2019 with all proceeds from this event going to support the Nelson Curling Club’s effort to obtain a new ice plant.  With the’Open’ team format, we hope to attract 48 teams of women, men, mixed and juniors from the Kootenays area!    The cost to enter this fund raising event is $260 per team (includes Draw to the Button fee).  Cash Prizes!  Draws for the local teams will start on Thurs, October 31.   Thursday – Halloween Night, dress in costumes, do a trick and win a treat, Saturday, Supper and Draw to the Button.  Jurassic Mike performing Friday and Saturday evening.  Silent Auction Friday and Saturday, each team to bring an item.  You will definitely have a FUN time while attending a worthwhile Fund Raising Event. This Spiel is being organized by the Butterfly Committee with support coming from the Creston and Nelson Curling Clubs and others in the Kootenays.    Please contact either Terry, Nando or Ross to register or to get more information.

BC Interior Master Championship 2019

Congratulations!!  The Creston Men’s Over 70 Team has WON the BC Interior Master Championship determined by a team draw to button as 3 teams were tied including Creston, Grand Forks and Kamloops.  This team of Terry O’Connor, Vern Ronmark, Richard Allan and Ron Toyota finished 3rd in the overall PCMC with Chilliwack winning

The Creston Men’s Over 60 team of Erich Gross, Tim Hull, Harry Haberstock and Doug Thompson had a slow start but were playing much better towards the end of the competition.

CURLING STARTUP 2018-2019:  All leagues will start curling the week of October 15, 2018.  Registration opens on September 18, 2018 on the new Online ‘Curling Inside/Outside (Curling I/O)’ Registration System.  Go to the Leagues Menu for more detailed Registration and Fee information.

SWING & SLIDE:  OCTOBER 13, 2018, CRESTON GOLF CLUB AND CRESTON CURLING CLUB:  An annual FUN Event!!  Golf Club Members Cost:  $10.00; Non Members Cost:  $45.00.  Tee time is 1 PM! ADULT BEGINNERS CURLING CLINIC:  TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT!!  OCTOBER 14, 2018   1 – 4 PM    Members please spread the word to friends, family and neighbors who may have an interest in curling and want to give it a try.  Send them down to the curling rink on October 14th for a FREE learn to curl afternoon.  Equipment is supplied but bring your clean indoor shoes and wear comfy pants with a warm but not too bulky jacket! During this afternoon you will have the opportunity to try curling with our qualified instructors and learn the basics of curling.  Participants are welcome to Register on this date, but it would be helpful if you preregister prior to this date by emailing to:  [email protected]  OR go to the Curling Club’s Registration System, and under ‘Products’ enter your name and contact information.

OCTOBER 20, 2018:  OPTIMISTS’ GETTING STARTED IN CURLING A fun introduction for new and beginners curlers for ages 10 – 12ish!   Includes Games, Skill Development, Relays & More!  $20.00 for a full day, including snacks and lunch!  See attached Poster for more detailed information including Registration info.

CURL BC NEWS:  Kimberley Dennis is the new Education Coordinator for Curl BC. She is looking forward to helping clubs organize and deliver any coaching, officiating, or ice technician workshops throughout the upcoming season. There are a number of events happening around the Kootenay’s this fall that our members can take advantage of.  Including the following events:

–          Jet Ice Level 1 Technical in Cranbrook September 29th-30th facilitated by BJ Gagnon.   This course will help develop any new staff members that your club may have for the upcoming season.

–          Club Coach Workshop in Trail October 13th-14th facilitated by Karen Watson *this workshop is free for any female participants due to a leadForward grant.   This course would benefit any members/volunteers that are helping your clubs with junior & learn to curl programs, giving them extra training, resources, and confidence.
